“Nothing can be done without hope and confidence” – Hellen Keller
Indeed, confidence is one of the ingredients of success in fulfilling our dreams. But seeing it on the wrong side can cause self-absorption, selfishness and even self-obsession that, my friend, leads to “dumbfounding” failure.
So, here are the effective tips on building your self-confidence in a right way.
I know, it’s just the first step and it seems like I am not making any sense but truth be told, darling, our environment reflects the state of our mind. I myself is struggling with being disorganized (I usually justify it with being a creative person) *laughs* but I find decluttering really effective in brightening up my mood that allows me to think properly and accomplish my tasks. As I do this often, I found out that it also enhances my organizational skills that I am now applying in all areas of my life. It’s been a huge help in boosting my self-esteem that makes my confidence more natural.
DO NOT DRESS TO IMPRESS
Probably you heard/read about this all over the interweb. But it is important for us to always be reminded that we must not be influenced by the ‘thought’ of pleasing other people. Personally, I based my style on comfort and modesty because I always find myself confident whenever I’m comfortable with what I wear. If you ever find yourself feeling conscious about the clothes you wear, change it, you have the capability to choose the color palette or the theme of your style, just don’t forget the catchword, comfort, because when you are comfortable confidence will effortlessly stand out.
STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
When you compare yourself to other people you are allowing negativity to swirl around and ruin you. I, myself feel weak and worthless every time I compare my capabilities or physical appearance to other people. It brings my confidence down. It makes me so jealous and insecure, it robs my joy on the things/capabilities I have now. Later in life, I overcome it by accepting my strengths and weaknesses, the things where I’m good at and where I’m lacking. Remember, the only person that you need to compare yourself with is the person you were yesterday. Create a habit of self-evaluation. And see how much progress you make towards your goals. Aim to be a better version of yourself. Learn to compliment and do not compare. Believe me, you’ll feel more confident about yourself without having to think less of other people. Start complimenting other people now, it will not just help you but will also help in building their confidence up.
DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO
As what Steve Jobs says “…And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle….” I only knew what I want to do in life when I start giving value on ‘what I really love to do‘. Now, when I say “I love to do” it means, the things that I’m passionate about. Before, I really doubt myself on pursuing my passion ’cause I know I’m not good enough. So, to keep me going, I made a list of all my strengths and a different list of things that I am passionate about that still needs improving. Fill the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. With this, you’ll no longer grope towards your goal. You will feel more confident about the steps you take in the walk of life.
WALK WITH A PURPOSE
A purposeful life means you are ‘intentionally‘ living your life for the greater good of many rather than self-satisfaction. Without a sense of purpose, we will aimlessly wander in this world, (that makes us) a good-for-nothing-brick. I was once a wanderer, lost in this world. And I experience a cycle of short-term success and frustrations. I never find joy in what I do. I only found my purpose when I was enlightened by the Truth. If you want to unleash your full potential then, do not be afraid to ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
So as we end, do not focus on what you can do for yourself but what you can for others. That’s the only indicator that you are building your confidence up with the right foundation.
Till my next post, Godbless.
